Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 due to its negative effects on the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Chicago because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was made prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately unavailable. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to operate your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at iTemp Heating and Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
